Rollin for a reason: Part III

Being a native New Englander has conditioned me to the ever present features that the indigenous natural landscape offers its inhabitants. Home I am never far from rolling hills, palisades cliffs, vast forests, the Appalachian Mountains, and even the Atlantic Ocean. If you’re a New Englander too and you’ve never spent any time in Saranac Lake I highly recommend spending, or rather investing, a weekend.

It was for this reason that I was excited to spend a weekend in Warren Dunes State Park in Michigan on the Lake Michigan shoreline. It is less than an hour from Hyde Park and based off testimonials would be a welcomed dose of the nature I was used to enjoying. After Emily finished a large project and had a free weekend we were headed to the beach to explore the dunes and enjoy being outside.

Warren Dunes did not disappoint. The rolling dunes and wooded areas provided miles of trails and even more miles of open shoreline.

This was early May and the weather was still brisk, between 50 and 70 over the course of the weekend, but the Sun made everything pleasant. I rode a little, enjoying the paved roads, gravel paths, and hard packed single track, and we shared meals over a campfire. It was great.

My next post I want to write about the state of my bike, the state of my itinerary, and more nuts and bolts on my training regimen so hopefully that will be interesting to you.
